Exclamation Old blue stranded me

Coming back from americade she shut down on me, at least the rest of the weekend she hauled me around like a champ.
It stalled abruptly no sputter and i noticed the tach needle jumping as it died. It would start back up but only run a few minutes and the headlight went out for a second a couple times. Will still start back up no problem but wont run long and occasionally starter button wont fire either but i can turn ignition switch off and on again it will fire.
Check so far that the battery terminals are tight and clean havent dug any further in. Oh and voltmeter was reading good all weekend and battery has never discgarged its still good.
Any ideas where to start diagnosing this?

This just goes to confirm my theory that one should never, ever, give vehicle a name...look at "Christine" the killer car....giving vehicles names gives them human traits, like jealousy, sulking and downright awkwardness...... if its just your bike or "glide" it will run for ever ;-)

I would check your ground connections, as traildog signaled to check. Maybe start with this.

That is an interesting theory Spanners39.
I recently named my "new" shovel FXR "paycheck". And lo and behold, the shovel likes to eat paychecks. You may be on to something there.

I'm going to suggest checking all circuit breakers and while your in there change them all as they do get weak and will fail.
When it does start for the couple minutes does the tach act normal?

Where are the breakers in the fairing?
The tach acts normal until it stalls then it jumps around or falls flat and the lights go out. Ihave a hd service manual so i will see if i can locate the entire main power system.

Yes the circuit breakers are in the fairing and one main circuit breaker on the right side next to oil bag under the cover.
If you haven't had the fairing off its quite straight forward
-remove headlight outer ring , one screw at bottom of ring pointed up
- remove headlight holder, screws
- remove headlight
- remove headlight pot , screws
- remove windshield screws and nuts
- put towel over front fender for next step
- remove 2 bolts from each side of spot light/ signal light rack and twist and lay it down on fender
- with 7/16 1/4" drive socket reach into fairing through headlight pot hole and remove 2 nuts from each side , don't have to remove completely only enough so there loose
-pull fairing off bike

Unfortunately, Bertha had her name when I bought her and it's too late to "unname" her....

Funny, when mine died at the dealership, I thought she might be thinking I was there to trade her........and got PISSED.........
