My 90 flhtc crankcase breather always leaks oil. I put a few hundred miles on the bike a week so its not because its sitting around. I ran the line to the back of the bike to get it away from the tire but really want to fix it, any ideas?
Possibly blow by from high miles and due for a upper end refresh .
Try a simple compression test to see if the rings and valves are ok.
Also understand that the timed breather gear has a plastic component that
can deteriorate with age and miles.
the oil is kept a bit short of full cause i keep a close eye on it and am always adding. the top had been done by the last owner and i don't know what the mileage was when done. got it last sept with 25k on it and has 31k on it now and it leaks the same as it always did.
You say the po did a top end rebuild at approx. 25k ?
Do you mean the po did a top end rebuild at 25000 miles ???
If so , ... why ? And did he screw something up .?
run your oil level a little lower, like 3/4 to the top. How much oil is coming out? If you can route your vent higher like the other poster who has his under his seat, you might stop the problem.
Hatch.
mine blows oil just enough to be annoying.
if you raise the vent hose where will the oil go? will it go back into the head or just stay there in the hose?
