I just read this from start to finish, such drama! Glad you got it going. I have to ask; way back in the first couple of pages you were going to try some starting fluid on it, why didn't you? You would have know very quickly if the engine itself was sound, if you had spark and which direction to turn...would have saved a lot of headaches but killed a great novel
Traildog, interesting that the petcock freed up after after putting the mighty vac on. I listened closely to the first video and not even a sputter after you squirted fuel in from the accelerator pump. I would have expected a fire or two but it just kept turning over. Well, never ASSume anything I guess. Way to stick with it.
I'm not sure. The ether may have opened something. The Mighty Vac may have un-stuck something.
All I know is.....Bring on the WASH BUCKET and WARM WEATHER!
I am thinking it was an issue with the petcock ... since it is running now (and sounding good) it couldn't have been anything with the carb, coil or ignition ... I am thinking there could have been some debris in either the vacuum tube or petcock that was causing it to not flow adequate fuel to the carb ...
Way to stay after it ... good on ya (and to all those on the forum who provided troubleshooting tips) ...
Traildog - Happy for you cause we all "feel your pain".
I am most impressed with all the gang that chimed in and stayed with you till the end. I had nothing to offer when it comes to carbs.
Really nice job forum contributors. Watched this one from start to finish cause it's too da__ cold to ride up here.
It's alive, now we won't have much to do for the rest of the winter, let's put a 6 speed gear set in Traildogs bike, that should keep us occupied until Spring
BTW, in the first video, you can see a red light on the ignition module. In the second video, the red light is on, but, the VOS (green) light comes on too.
I'm not sure why the VOS light wasn't on in the first video, but I'm going to try to find out.
That green light is on when voes is active (high timing map)at idle and cruise when there's enough vacuum, goes out when manifold vacumm drops(opening the throttle) and uses a lower timing map.
Maybe the vacuum line was obstructed or not connected?
and cause no vacuum to petcock and voes?(i'm assuming there's a t in the line)
