As for hooking the tach up, well, in general, they go to the coil negative for the signal, plus a ground. Some may require a +12V, but I think most older ones should not. So, an alligator clip to ground and one to the negative (points) side of the coil and that will probably work. Now, if you're using one from a mustang, you may have to do some math to get the right reading. HD has 2 cylinders, mustang has 4, 6 or 8, right? Depending on what mustang tach you have, you'll have to multiply the reading on the tach by 2, 3 or 4 to get the right reading.
Thanks they are 4 cylinder tachs so I will have to multiply by 2. And if I wasnt so poor I would have a book now, stealer wanted 70 bucks for one for a 93 softail (bike my drivetrain came from)
