Maintaining... man oh man is the oil filter terrible to replace because of its location and the master cylinder and stator all making a crowded situation. I use K&N 170c with the 17mm nut to make it snug and easy to remove. Try jamming an oil filter wrench in that ****, gross!
Question,
The PO, one of em, must've torqued the oil pan plug too tightly as it has gotta be stripped. I finger tightened it and went to make a good 1/2 turn and it went far too easily. Now this bike has not leaked a bit of the dirty oil I removed. A forum search says to try and go up one size, longer plug, helicoil/timesert or whatever. I have about 50 miles on it in the 2 weeks I've owned her.
Not gonna start a poll but what do you treasured friends think?
Thanks yet again! :-)
The pan can be removed without much fuss. Then you can fix it correctly with a timesert, helicoil or the like. I did it in a few hours one afternoon on mine. Much better than an oversized POS plug jury rig.
Does it simply unbolt if you can get it on a table? What about the stuff that's in there, anything special to watch out?
the stuff thats in there is oil. you can drain that out beforehand if you want
oil pans pretty involved. you *should* be able to do it by just removing the back wheel / dropping the swingarm out of the way (unbolting the engine/tranny so it'll tilt forward), but its still a fair amount of work
