Default Dunlop tire codes

Having a bit if an issue with tire codes. I'm narrowing down two types if tires , the dunlop elite 2 and the Michelin commander 2. The dunlops I have on the bike now show a size of 130/90-16 front and back which is fine on the http://www.canadasmotorcycle.ca/ site for the michelins as they show a 130/90-b-16 73h for front and back to choose from but for the dunlop elite 3's there is a different format of a number , closest to my present tire is the two numbers mt90b16 and mu90b16 both for front and rear. Man why do they gotta complicate things? Does someone know which of the two dunlop codes would jive with the numbers on my present set of dunlops?
Thanks

Lynn, I don't know either! I suspect the MT and MU codes (plus no doubt many others) are US spec of some sort. MT is 130/90 and MU is 140/85. They have a similar rolling diameter, but MU has a higher load rating, which for Avon tyres the front is 74, rear is 77. The 'b' means bias for the construction and 'h' is the speed rating, meaning they can go faster than our bikes!

Lynn, your bike when new came with MTs both ends, but later bikes with the MU rear. On our older bikes that can be a tight fit, with the wide belt, but is worth squeezing in for the extra load rating. I discussed that with Avon and was told that for those of us who ride 2-up a lot the MU is a better choice. It has a little extra street cred as well!

Thanks Graham, I was just trying to decypher the codes between the michelin commander2 and the dunlop e3s. Well you kinda helped narrow things down for me because the wife rides her own bike so in reality I ride single 100% of the time. So I'm thinking the MT or 130 would be the way to go. Now I just need to figure out if the difference in the Dunlop e3 height ( if there is any ) will effect my speedo reading. As well being a stocky 185 lbs 5'7 height I really don't want to raise the bike any.
All the reading I'm been doing this morning I come across your favourtism for the Avon. I'm basicly looking for a nice riding high milage tire ( tipical I know).

Lynn, I'm not sure there is anything between us for either height or weight! All MTs and 130/90s should be pretty well the same diameter, so not affect speedo or ride height. I love Avons for their better ride, grip and handling, but I doubt if you will get Dunlop style mileages out of them.

Besides Avon, there are other alternatives to Dunlop (Continental Milestones, Michelin Commander, Metzler), most of which are said to be superior in the ride/grip/handling department. For me, ride/grip/handling on a motorcycle tire is far more important than the mileage.
