Someone smarter than me, that means any of you, please explain this pingle and how it can be set at different places to switch to reserve. And thanks for everyone's input, it's interesting to see what everyone else is working with.

I get between 40-45 mpg on my '95 FLSTF with Screaming Eagle carb.........however you have to bear in mind the UK gallons are bigger than USA gallons. Don't know if your miles are shorter than ours too to compensate for it? ;o)

Wink

A US gallon is 4/5th one of ours, so a 5 US gallon tank only takes 4 of ours!

A Pingel petcock is a fuel valve that is supposed to flow fuel better than a stock valve. And they are rebuildable and also supposed to be a better design than stock. As far as "setting" the reserve, I don't see how you can do that without cutting the stand pipe.
Other than that, they look pretty cool.
Oh, and I wouldn't call myself a smart guy, just researched them when I thought my petcock went south.

Exactly, what you said. The "main" fuel supply takes fuel from the standpipe on the petcock. The reserve pulls from the bottom of the tank. The height of the standpipe determines how the main/reserve supply is divided. The Pingel petcock has a longer standpipe than the stock petcock, thus the reserve supply ends up being larger (a bit more than necessary IMO).
