i need to get a service manual for this model like i said just got it an havent even rode it but a few miles wanted to make sure i didn't screw something with all the work that had been done the MIKUNI 42 carb was making most of the noise an a loose aftermarket brake cover that rattled which sounded like it was comin from the cam area but now i feel better about it after my mechanic looked at it just got to work the bugs out of it its so im going to ride it an let tomorrow worry about its self

Clever idea. Fortunately, replacement caps are easy to get. Sounds like the internal "over run" ratchet just broke.

With my luck the self tapping screw would have slipped off the gas cap and gone into the gas tank.

Glad you got it off and like Uncle G says replacement caps are easy to come by.
