Default Carby Enrichiner

My '99 with the stock carb takes about 5 seconds to start after I pull the Enrichiner all the out in preparation for a cold start. As recommended in the owners manual I do not twist the throttle during starting. I also leave the bike on it's jiffy stand. Does the bike need to be level and fully upright for better starting? Otherwise, the bike starts well. She starts right up when hot with a slight twist of the throttle. Thanks in advance!!

5 seconds is a long time to hold in the start button to me.

Id try giving it a twist or two next time you start her cold.

I always start mine while she is on the kick stand.

Never heard anything aboutt the bike being level.

Well Gents, just as you advised, two twists of the throttle, pull the Enrichiner, and she fired up right away!! Thanks again for the good advise!!

With the cv your bike has (assuming it is the stock carb) you do NOT give the throttle a twist before starting. This is well documented when HD changed over to the CV as many of us that had earlier carbs would give it a couple twists and flood the bike, took a while for me to get used to it.
I would check for bad fuel or plugs first then look for an intake leak. You might also have to clean your carb and check enricher circut, float height and jetting.
I changed my 85 to a used CV that I cleaned and installed new jets. Cold start - Turn on fuel, turn on ignition, check in N hit button and it will start pretty much as quick as I can let go. Hot start same as above with no enricher.
And it does not matter that it is on the side stand.

If my bike has been sitting a day or two with the fuel **** off, I have to wait a couple second for gas to fill the bowl. Starts on first crank after that.

Must be different for the S&S carb.

Bertha had a stock carb with bigger jets. I ALWAYS had to give her 1 twist to start.

It may be well documented but from my experience it is wrong.

Agreed, depending on where you live, altitude, ambient temp etc you may have to give your throttle a twist before starting. When I converted my Ironhead to CV it was the opposite, no twists or it wouldn't start....my Evo Wide Glide needed a coupla twists and my Twin Cam needs a twist as you hit the button in what we call our winter.
