Default Having hard time splitting cases.

I've got it ready to come apart, and have given it a few decent whacks w/ a rubber mallet. She's not budging. Any tips/tricks?

BTW, The sealer is clear and very elastic. I read that the factory sealer is grey and firm. So my cases have been apart?

Somebody else just had the same problem.

I think Spanners suggested hitting it with a torch to heat it up a little.

its a lot easyer to remove the right side from the left / as the pinion bearing L/S is not attached to the cases its held in place by the pinion

hold the sprocket shaft L/S firmly alloy vise shield and work the left side with the rubber hammer / you will have to give it some good ones to brake the seal - i have seen the clear used by harley -- jz

I think sometimes the factory uses a clear one because I have seen bikes that we know haven't been apart with clear on them.

If your problem is just that the gasket goo won't break then run a Stanley knife round and cut all the strands.

Other than that use heat and with a rubber mallet, tap all around the joint.

I know this is a dumb question. The pinion gear/oil pump gear/circlip are all still in place, that has nothing to do with the case, right? the case is around the bushing?

The bushing stays in the case when it comes apart, you need to pull all them things off first...

you should re think doing this job what ever it is as special tools are needed

not long ago we had a guy use a torch to remove the pinion nut Y he did not know it was a left hand thread

take it to somone you think will do the right thing -- my take -- jz

What special tools do I need to just split the cases?

Service manual says pinion nut is right-hand thread.

I don't want to "think" it's done right, I want to know it was.

I'm not trying to be a dick, I just want to know how to work on this bike from A to Z, and very few people are going to take as much care with your stuff as you will.

I wouldn't be afraid to take my bike to HarDlife! If you're too chickenshit to work on it, take it somewhere. I'm chickenshit, I'll take my bike to HarDlife, he's someone I could trust.
