Hey guys got news back on my knock. The builder put the wrong size pistons in the jugs. He put .020 over in a .040 bore. Par for the course with all the other problems I have had. Think that spanners brought up the knock could be piston slap. Turns out thats what it was. It started burning oil right before the service new mechanics did an engine test and found bad leak down. They tore it down and found the issue allong with a list of other things he did wrong.
I've heard of shadetree mechanics, but this would fall under no tree. Whoever did the work must have never fit pistons or done a ring job. I'm glad it is in good hands now. I hope you are back on the road soon.
Hope to be on road soon too. Will all be up to the quote. This kind of cash doesn't just fall from "trees". It will be better than when I got it tho for a long time to come. Think I might put in a high volume ss oil pump while its this far apart. From what I have read it will help prolong the engine life being its hopped up a little. Any one have any thoughts on high flow pumps?
Plenty of bikes last a long time without them. Hopped up or not it still needs the same amount of oil. Plenty of people out there will take your money...
surprised it ran being .020 over.. are you able to just replace the pistons, or cylinders? or do you have to redo everything?. i bought a shovel once with a fresh rebuild from an indy shop. it knocked from a couple weeks after i bought it, everyone including dealers said that was how it was supposed to sound. after one summer, i found they forgot to put a wrist pin retainer in. the wrist pin dug 1/4" into the cylinder, cracked a piston, and wasted the lower rod bearings..

Yep, this "mechanic" must have been out in the sun for way too long to pull a stunt like that. Not a shade tree in sight obviously.
Total repairs at this point are new pistons and .010 bore over current the get cross hatch back and be sure of fittment. New trans top cover gasket(wrong one installed), primary gaskets ( leaking) and maybe new oil pump.
Spanners I posted about me having low oil pressure before and I understand evos are notorious for having low pressure. But wouldent you think I should have stock oil pressure readings? Guess where I am at is there is about 150 difference between rebuilding Harley pump to replacing it with an ss. From my understanding even if I put a stock flow ss pump they provide better flow of oil to the bottom end at low rpm.
Are you talking about having low pressure with that wrong piston setup? IMHO with those wrong pistons you were lucky to have any oil and cylinder pressure at idle. I'd talk to your current builder about this issue.
