Default 90+ hp/tq build

i want to push over 90 for both hp and tq out of my 1996 rd king. i have the motor tore down to the cases currently (bent exhaust valve rear cylinder and seeping base gaskets) and looking to do work!! i don't want to go over 10.25:1 compression due to needing to be able to ride in all heat conditions and all over this over corned state of NE (they think corn in your fuel is good...) i need it dependable! im looking for combinations with .010 cylinders, headwork, piston, cam... right down to plugs and wires!!
i do not want a big bore kit, stroker kit, and etc...
any help and dyno numbers would be great!!

What I always ask my customers who come to me with a set of numbers in mind is..."why the numbers?"

What do actually want the bike to do? and I am talking long-term here, not just the ego-boost of going fast but what power characteristics do you want from the bike and why?

I hate to **** on your parade but really....what's with the numbers? What if the bike produced 87HP, would you notice the difference? Would it do what you want it to do (for a long time) if the numbers weren't there?

Why not keep it to 9.5:1 and chuck in a torque cam? It would be a blast to ride and reliable too.

Is the quest for numbers an attempt to shore up a flagging self-esteem? Do your mates brag about numbers? Have you ever ridden a 90HP Evo and asked the owner what it takes to keep it together?

Sorry to sound like Dr Phil but answering those questions can save you a heap of cash.

If you wanna go really fast put a S&S motor in it, or buy a TC and slap a 120R in it but do your homework, do the navel-gazing and be sure about what you want before plucking a number out of the air and "going for it".

Yep....I'm old and boring but I have tuned a few Hogs and all my customers have walked away very, very happy but with less HP than they thought they wanted...because in the end...they didn't need it...

If I had an Evo of my own and was tuning it I would put in a stroker kit....its the most fun I ever had on two wheels, riding around on a stroked FXR :-)

I've chased performance, not numbers, with my Evo, having owned it from new, via stage 1, stroker kit (better in retrospect than I recognised at the time), to an S&S 107". I currently have 101HP and 107TQ, with 9.5:1 CR. CR on the stroker was around 10:1, with ported heads, cam etc, all put together by a competent tuning shop and probably gave the sort of numbers Spanners has mentioned. I suggest you find a Spanners style tuner nearby and visit, to talk through your ambitions. You're unlikely to get top shelf results any other way!

put me in as well coach -- 90 HP -- BUT i see you have fuel injection so all bets are off in getting to to run correctly unless its a self learn type

The numbers come from wanting to stay up and keep up.with those I ride with. They're pushing 90 and above on similar waited scoots so in order to keep up I would need the same. I've been speaking to a guy with a performance/drag background. I'm trying to.make sure I get the best bang for the buck. No offense but if I wanted a twin cam or aftermarket motor I would just buy one. I want to.make a bike that everyone views as slow and outdated the exact opposite of that. Yes some of it is ego, but most of the number thing is because I know what others are running. As far as the injection system that will be gone through and tuned by the same shop doing my heads.

As far as what I'm looking for, tq from as low as possible up to 5500-6000. I ride mostly higher rpm but want the go off the line. I know tq is what gets you there and hp is what keeps you there.
Just looking for combinations that make the power I'm looking for so I'm not wasting my money trying to track it down is all

To achieve your ambitions you first have to put in place the conditions that make it inevitable! Talk to a few top tuners, like HDF sponsors Hillside Cycle. They claim that their 80" Evo gives 90/90, their 89" stroker even more. You won't get those numbers by bolting things together, it needs a touch of tuner's magic star-dust! Take a look at their website and give Scott a call.

answer may be here: http://www.nightrider.com/biketech/

I say a good cam, killer carb an 2 into 1 exhaust will get you moving. maybe a gear change thrown in. Do you want to maximize acceleration off the line or top end? gearing will help with that. I think what every one is saying is it isn't always about the numbers, it's where in the rpm band you make power an how you put it to the ground.

My Uncle used to train Cops to ride motorcycles, he said a competent rider was worth 50HP extra

I think you need some new mates, I stopped riding with the "fast" crowd round here because they rode like jerks, pissed everybody off and caused a few accidents...but then as I said earlier...I am old and boring.

I understand the desire to build a "sleeper" but its gonna cost you...

on my 98 road king...formerly MM EFI (tore out in favor of a Mikuni). I ended up grenading my lower end, and since my S&S 124 has already arrived, I have no intentions of rebuilding her the way she was.

(if you're interested in a package deal, Ive got damned every everything you'd need...add in your own pistons/machine work for your jugs, and you'd be off and running...or if ya want it all, my jugs are scored (and need .030" over pistons to clean up the gouges)

it was a brutally fun setup...more torque than I really could use every day, but always good for a smile

The easiest way to get bigger numbers dependably is more cubic inches...those kind of numbers out of an 80 cubic inch motor will be less than dependable IMO...the only thing a motor makes is torque...horsepower is simply a math equation... HP = Torque x RPM ÷ 5252 ....they do not exist independent of each other.
