Default December 1st, let the modifications begin

Supposed to be an okay winter but this is the coldest November in my recent memory and with like 2 days of riding I said forget about it and let the winter commence as far as screwing around with motorcycle. Why leave well enough alone? So for now the Softail is going under the knife... stay tuned please and as always I welcome your comments and criticism and I will have several questions along the way.

Hey team,

Well as it so happens I came across a moco Springer front end on the newish CL /mpa section. I saw the ad and the guy only wanted $1750 for it which is suprisingly very cheap but then he said he was converting to a bagger front end after riding his old man's FLHR and loving the handling. I have a FLSTC with chrome lowers and he wanted to swap mine plus. Well the plus was this: the two fenders as I had two fronts and the two front wheels I had one being a Ultima King Spoke that was a planned winter mod and a couple of $$$. Not too bad considering I ended up with a GMA front caliper, 21" wheel in good shape with c-minus rubber, his bars, springer and fender too.

The bad stuff is the unknown. His bike is titled as a 1999 FLSTC, so that is not the original front end on her anyhow. I gotta mod the front hub to get the speedo to work as I have a gear driven one, the positive is that the spacer looks like a direct swap with the drive unit.

I am partial to black paint as we all know that black bikes are faster but I may have to go in another direction with this iteration but probably not.

Another CL find was the Corbin seat, it was $60 and used of course but it will get rid of the studded mustang seat for now. I will hold onto the seat as it is the best seat that Harley made IMHO. There is a truth to you sit in the Heritage and on a Dyna but whatever. FXR boys take all your shots at me.

Oh BTW, check out the bare walls in the first photo with the softie looking like she did, no insulation. Lookie the photo above with the Corbin seat, Jasper asked me to use my work dumpster for some trash. What trash? I'll take that pink gold! One man's treasure is another man's trash. Did I say that backwards? lol
Thanks J86!

I do regularly bust ***** about apes on high risers, sooooo.... those who live in glass houses shan't toss stones so I am gonna go with 18 degree drags. I know that a broomstick would look killer but our local indy advised against one hence the slight bend. I am also going to go with chrome switches this time too and we'll see about sourcing a good master cylinder.

Gonna look sweet, man! Are staying with the skirted rear fender? Those drags on that springer front end will be ****!

Oh, and keep it black, my brother! JMO

A stock fxsts uses a different speedometer drive than a fxst ...but the wheel you have looks different than an fxsts with a speedo drive...here's a pic of one I have laying in the garage if that helps.

Gonna stay black for sure, I am trying to be different than usual but not in the cards. And the fender is off for a reason. I got a wrapper rear fender that will be chopped to possibly be able to use the other half on another project. lol

Tom,
do me a favor, stay close to your computer and no vacations until this wraps up, ok? LOL

I went to jpcycles website and punched in speedo drives and did see that there are different part numbers but I saw your recent post about rear drive options too. Thanks for the picture of the wheel too! I will inspect the whole setup further and then see what I gotta do to keep the odometer and speedo as I like them.
