Default Storing these beasts.

First winter with the evo. I have an attached garage, but it isn't heated. I took a ride yesterday, but once the snow is here to stay, the bike will be stationary for good. My question quite simply......is it better to starve out the carb and forget about it until spring. Or fire her up periodically and let her run for awhile at operating temp? Everything is original on the bike (gaskets, etc.) if that makes a difference. And temps. here in Ohio can dip below 0 degrees F and single digits for sure at times......I've already topped off the tank with stabil and she's plugged in to the battery tender.

p.s. comments about "it sucks to be you guys up north" and " it was sunny
and 70 today" are not welcome

Add some stabilizer, take a ride to get it through the carb, turn off the petcock, and let her sit. I also use a trickle charger.

I started my last bike every now and then. One time it puked its tranny fluid.

I already added stabilizer to my current ride, but, the temps are going to stay in the 50's, so. I'll have to do it again.

TD, never noticed you're in Indiana. Ya, same here. That ride yesterday felt awesome even though it was upper 30's. Took a few others too since I topped her off, so I'm probably a gallon or two shy of full myself.

I'm in Pendleton. You must be up north. Temps "down here" are supposed to be pretty warm (relatively speaking) for the next couple of days.

First salt to hit the street, I'm done.

We recently had our first frost here in the UK, although no salt around here just yet. Fortunately we don't normally go much below freezing. As for your bike you chaps have pretty well covered things. You could consider jacking or blocking the bike up off its tyres for the duration and also covering it.

NW Ohio......Michigan line. I was planning to shut her down just like you said. Wanted to make sure that was best. As long as there's no salt down to affect her, I'll fire her back up for a ride if we get a fluke warm day here or there.

Ya, for sure it's covered too. Never thought jacking my bike up was necessary for just the winter.....never had any issues not doing it. She's getting brand new tires in the Spring anyhow.

Mine sits on the J&S whenever I'm not riding. Sooo much easier to move around when necessary.

If I store mine for a whole winter I drain everything. I once stored a Yamaha SECA for the winter with gas in the tank. It rusted really bad. So, I ride my bike all year and it's not an issue.

And she's always ready for a good cleaning. After a week of dust, she really needs it !
