You can't check end play on the bench it has to be assembled on the bike. . You can only check the bearing condition. It is a taper roller bearing (thrust) so the adjustment is made with shims between the inner race and inner spacer.
I know you cant check end play on bench but did not think bearings should be moving in there should they? I will not be surprised if I am wrong. Appreciate all the help.

With the 2 piece bearings you will get a lot of movement when it is not in place and under tension.
Bearings are cheap.
If you are worried about it at all I would suggest just replacing them.
I will post the pics and video Monday. I don't think it should have the play it did.
The inner race and spacer tube are not located properly except when the wheel is correctly assembled in the bike. It isn't possible to assess bearing condition with the wheel out of the bike, except visually. The bearings are tapered rollers and without the rubber seals in place the inners would both fall out on removing the wheel from the bike.
Have you ever lost a gas cap or find one from years ago ?
Go back to what Spanners mentioned earlier, it is common to weld on the race to shrink it for removal. I welded a washer on the race to have something to tap on for removal but became loose after letting cool down from the welding. This is something to be ready for before tackling the job.

Here are the pics, the first one should be a video, I don't know if it will work. The other issue is the white "grease" in the pic. That had me thinking that the bearing on that side was not working right. Appreciate all the help. I have not had to work on bearings before.
