You could definitely have a 93" evo motor in it as S&S sells all the components to do one. Not a lot of them, but some were done earlier.
I was going to do my new big bore build as a 93" to match my 93" shovel stroker I built, but there was more 96" stuff around cheaper.
Best rule on longevity is stroke length not to exceed 4.5" for best long life. Stock evo is 4.25 with a 3.5 bore for 81.69" of displacement. A 93" is 4.5 and a 96" is 4 5/8" which is close enough to 4.5" for my use.
Currently running a 113" in the dresser which is 4.5" stroke by 4.0" bore. Very smooth and at 45k on it..
Enjoy it and figure it out when you get around to it..
Thank you guys for the wealth of information! I picked up a Service and Parts manual from Ebay for $28 shipped and the seller was nice enough to throw in 3 extra "How to" books. I've got a lot of learning to do but I think I've found my new addiction...well, it's always been there. I've just finally gotten around to realizing it. I appreciate all the feedback!
Here are a couple pics from the ad when I bought the bike (my first attempt at posting pics here...):
