that being said, i don't think bolt on stuff is that bad, but take the original stuff off that you wanna change, even so far as if you want a different paint job, take the stock tins off buy some different tins and paint them and bolt them on and keep the original stuff stored away so you really can put the bike back to original, because especially in the case of rare bikes the original is going to be worth way more than any modded version of it. enjoy your new bike i think it looks great now!
We are both on the same page, trust me. I'd NEVER touch the stock frame on an FXR. Both of mine will remain strictly with bolt-on performance parts. I'm also keeping all the stock parts, although organizing/cataloging all of it is a major PITA! I'm also contemplating keeping the motors bone stock on both, and if anything, swapping in built motors and storing the stockers just in case...

Wow so much disdain in this thread.... strange I'm pretty sure he bought the bike and can bolt on whatever he pleases. Pretty sure he is not going to do anything but compliment on what a stock FXR already has going for it...Unlike the 90's where guys turned their FXRs into hideous over the top pro street choppers. I for one am excited to see where you take this FXR, if its anything like the VROD you have it should be a great looking bike. I also just picked up a 94 FXRP that was so completely back assward from stock that I feel everything I have done to it is only helping the bike back to its once former glory. And calling another mans bike "gay" because what he wants done to it is childish. I don't like a lot of things people do with their bikes but the thing is I don't care because I'm not the one riding it. I sure as hell wouldn't tell someone what to do and not to do to his bike, I will share advice and help out but again not my money not my bike. If you want to save a stock FXR from a few aftermarket bolt-ons go buy your own. In the mean time T-Rod I feel for your bank account, good luck and sorry for the hijack I just hate seeing a guy get beat up over what he wants to do to his new ride.

that's awesome, my springer is fairly rare too and it's got a big cam in it and some pipes but if i really wanted power I'd pull the stock motor and throw a crate motor in it for sure.

Sounds like you've got a good attitude on it I look forward to seeing some pics of your progress.

SOA is just the reference point, nobody had heard of moto-x bars and gayness on an H-D until the show...get over yourself and try to have some fun in life.

Somebody else needs either the chill pill or a ***** enlargement.....we all have our opinions and mostly they are a good-natured lot on this forum...I just hate the SOA look with a passion and like stock FXRs with an equal passion...be a dull forum if we didn't speak our minds and take the pee-pee a bit....just imagine if Traildog was as sensitive as some of you dudes on here.

I get flack for riding a Twin Cam and being on the Evo forum...do you see me going "Oooh boo hoo" all over the place?

Oh I will, you can be sure of that...its why I stay away from the Dyna Forum....me and my Tranny have standards, low though they may be...remember, I ride a Twin Cam....

Well that is good to know, I dare say some people will hate on that but I don't mind.....negative attention is better than none at all

The bike is clean and solid. It's truly a 10 at 10. Looks mint at 10ft away. Up close you see some minor scuffs and blemishes... But for a true 1-owner, unmolested FXR I think I did pretty well. Runs strong and smooth, other than a shimmy at 80mph plus, probably needs new steering head bushing. Plans are to get a chrome Thunder Header this week along with deciding on a new seat, then moving on to a better riser/bar setup and powder coating the wheels and sliders ASAP. Stock signals and hand controls have to go soon too, being replaced with newer Dyna units. Then maybe a progressive front and rear suspension setup. After that's done I'll be happy riding it until the winter and then move on to a chain drive, carb, and some other goodies. In the end I jumped on it because it needs less in terms of repairs than the RT and leaves more for straight up mods. Can't wait to get started...

Sweet find T Rod. Man, that thing looks cherry and very stock for a 24 yr old bike. As others have said, make sure you keep all of your stock parts. Certain parts like the stock exhaust are a bitch to find.

It's not just a travesty, it's heresy!!
