A job like this is all labor isn't it? I wonder what this bike is going to sell for, someone's going to get a great deal. I was looking at evos on eBay today. There's two under $1800 right now. I would think there's better deals out there.
I think you should get some pics posted up here or the bearing, it was still running it can't be totally destroyed yet could it? Tman was yours missing just one roller?
Fortunately no. See that little piece just sitting on the breather gear bore? Another piece came out with it when I yanked the bearing out. None of it was missing, but it did trash the cam journal and wore all the hardening off.
Did he give you anymore detail? Are you SURE the cam bearing lost all the needles and went into the cases and oil pump? Either way... keeping it, saving it, and fixing it is cheaper than buying a new bike later on down the road, and you'll likely be more satisfied anyways.
Like I said, when you have the money, let a competent indy rebuild your bottom end, and then you can do the rest... slap the cases, back together, all that mess. Get a shop manual, and when you're ready, come on back here and we will help you. We've all been through it man.
Begs the question, do you trust your Indy? If the cam bearing had grenaded I expect you'd have a hell of a camchest whine or worse and a very rough running engine. I know when my bearing was going the bike would intermittantly act like it had a hot cam in it. My bearing did not come apart. It did whine.
Get a look inside your nose cone.
It whined, but otherwise felt like it ran fine to me. I'll be going in for a personal look at it tomorrow after work. Crossing my fingers.
Pictures and lots of them. These guys on here can spot something wrong easily. Take a video or snap pics showing the details. They've helped me see stuff I didn't know enough to know was wrong yet.
this is the most helpful group you will find, 3 months ago due to my own ignorance i was in your shoes, cam bearing needles everywhere. I lost my oil pump also. with the help of the guys on this forum they walked me through splitting the cases and cleaning up the mess, wasn't as bad as i envisioned at the beginning runs great now and i would have bought a new engine had i listened to the mechanics. get the bike and jump back on here you will have it running in no time with these guys help.
We might be able to find you a motor... Plus depending where you are I know a few folks in Va that maybe able to help. If you want to let it go let me know too...
I don't see how that motor was running without noise with that bearing being busted like that! Looks like the mechanic broke it trying to pull it apart. to me, just saying. Like some else metiomned in this thread...IF you decide to sell, hit me up and let me know. I've wanted one of these bikes for the longest!

That's what I think... he wasn't careful and busted it while pulling it out; that happened to someone else on here a while back. When mine was coming apart the bike was still running great for the most part... just a lot of cam whine and every now and then it would die on it's own.

In the first post the OP is complaining about cam whine.
