1997 wide glide help
I'm considering buying a 1997 H-D FXDWG Dyna Wide Glide. It'sSilver/White has15,838 miles on it. The price is$9,990.00. It looks to be in good shape. Anything special i need to be looking out for? Any particular issue with that year of that bike? Is the price ok? I've only been riding a year and I'm trading my first bike (Honda ACE) in for this. The only way I can afford a Harley is to buy used but I don't want to get screwed. Any suggestions?

My 97 FXDWG is below. It has been a great bike and I have had zero issues with it. got mine last year used and for the same price you may be getting yours for. I'm not sure that this year had any issues. I suspect that unless the bikeis a lemon, you'll be fine. enjoy it!
Dosn't sound to bad.
Few things to look at:
Check the base gaskets for any oil leaking.
Check the tires for tread.
This stuff could cost to get fixed as soon as you buy it.
Or work it in the deal.
Good luck!

I got the same thing used, `1997 wideglide ,belive it had bout 15k on it too, mine was slightly modified, but i have done lots more to it,,,nothing realy to "watch out for", check oil screen by lifters, what "two as one " said, brake pads, drive belt, and look in gas tank for rust, mine had some build up on the filter inside the tank and when you run low the reserve doesnt work. then you walk,,[sm=bangbang.gif]
As far as I know HD corrected most of the problems with the Evo and Dyna models by '97, except for the weak inner cam bearing (replace with Torrington), the base gaskets(replace with silicone coated metal gaskets), and the lifters(replace with quality aftermarket like Jim's or Crane). But at 15K you're unlikely to have any immediate problems in those areas.

Hi Guys,
Can't seem to get any help from the FXR owners, so hopefully you all can help. I was always a Shovelhead guy and just purchased a 1993 FXLR with 18K on the clock in perfect shape. Due to a left side leg injury I also can't use forward controls, must use mid mounts and move the shifter to the right side. I have done this before, so that is not a problem.
This particular bike has forward controls installed and a S&S Super E carb other than that it is original. The owner also has all of the original parts and swapping out the controls will not be a problem.
I have read about the Torrington cam bearing and lifter swap out. I have also read something about the transmission belt drive pulley locking system coming loose on certain year bikes. Can you guys please comment about what I should be looking for if anything and differences between prior and later models that I should need to know?
I'm also interested in purchasing a set of the factory cast aluminum wheels that would fit this bike.
