finally finished up the ev27 install took out the adjustable pushrods /(now for sale if anyone wants em) and put in the stockers and the motor valvetrain noise is quite as a mouse , the lifters are new as is torrignton bearing and cam. rode the bike for about 15 minutes and it pulls phenomenal what a difference its like a different bike. however there is a small amount of gear whine from cam chest i uploaded a video, is this an acceptable level of noise ? will it cause major damage? i really dont wanna have to go back in there
Gears whine - it's what they do! It's humming to itself, full of the joys of life. You may just be listening to it more closely than you did before you made the change.....
If you can hear it above the noise of the exhaust and the motor then its too tight and you need to install the stock gear wheel or an aftermarket undersized one.
I just did a gear drive conversion on a TC and the specs say 0.5 thou to 3 thou lash....this one had 0 thou and did not whine.
An audible whine when riding suggests clearance in the minus thou range which is why I always use the stock gear on an Evo...others will tell you to just ride it until the whine stops but they will be giving you bad advice.
when you changed cams did you press your gear off and onto the new one? seems i remember you saying you did but if not any shop with a press can do this in about 5 minutes. lots of threads on the procedure but basically scribe marks at cam flat spot on your gear to use for alignment, press off, align and press back on. easy even for me.
