Ok got the exhaust question answered and have some 3" V&H on order. Now the question is do I wrap or don't wrap. I have a 2016 military edition Slim S and the only reason for the wrap is to add a bit of a nostalgic look to the bike.
My idea is to wrap from the header to the start of the slip on. Wrapping over the heat shield to give it a beefed up look. I've read on other sites that this could lead to poor performance and also has been known to split pipes from the heat. Now I ride in Southern California today being about 103 but not the norm for the rest of the year. It's also dry, in fact my last 3 bikes have never seen the rain.. So rusting is out of the question..
Don't believe the fact that you think the pipes won't rust. That wrap will hold humidity from the atmosphere as well as moisture from any rain or washing the bike.
Back when the manufacturers were making bikes for the military they never wrapped the exhausts, so that would toss out the "nostalgic look" for me.
We wrapped the pipes on our AHDRA Mod Class bike.....never saw anything on the dyno.......took it off as it was weight, that did not create a gain.
