Default Pro Pipe Problem

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen. Hope y'all can offer some help.

2010 Fat Bob with V&H Pro Pipe Chrome. Intake and V&H Fuel Pak. About 3000 miles on the pipe.

Out riding this morning and start to hear a rattle after about 20 miles. Pull over and see that the two nuts holding the exhaust pipe flange to the front cylinder head are no longer there. Flange and pipe just flapping in the wind.

How in the hell did that happen? Do I just need to get two new nuts (HA!) and tighten it up? Or is there some type of gasket that needs replacing?

Thanks for any advice!!

This is a very common problem, with all exhaust systems. There are many threads on the topic, so don't feel alone! I run a shop and on every HD we install a new exhaust system on we tell the customer to bring the bike back after they put about 500 miles on it so we can re-torque the system...

Get some new 5/16-24 flange nuts and install them. Then after you run a few tanks of gas through the bike, tighten them down again...You can double nut them to keep them from coming loose again if desired.

Ok, thanks! I was dreading it being a little more of an in-depth procedure. No gasket to replace! Thanks again!!!

After you get the nuts tightened down start the bike up and let it idle, spray brake cleaner where the head pipe meets the head; if the idle does not change you are sealed tight, if it revs up you have an exhaust leak and may need to replace the gasket or tighten the nuts some more...

Also alternate sides as you tighten them. I normally finger tighten each side and then start alternating a few turns on each side. This should get you a good seal and both bolts should tighten evenly.
Good luck
