I recently installed cams in my 88 and had and still have similar concerns. I started with custom made adj push rods that didn't work. Bought and installed a set of SE's yes theylook smaller on the end but i measured the radius and it is the same as the non adjustable ones. In any event i have noise in the upper end of the valve train had it apart after 500 miles and all seems good there is some rubbing and I attribute the excess noise to that..
