Default Exhaust advice for a total noob? (04' super glide)

Can anybody help me figure out what exhaust setup I have here?

This is my first bike, and I just got it used.

I love it to pieces, but it's a nasty, backfiring, carb-farting SOB.

I read up on tuning the carb (S&S shorty), and that helped quite a bit... but it still farts when I let off the throttle, and the occasional backfire at high rpms.

I found some site that suggested quiet baffles, so I ordered some, for what I thought were Vance&Hines short shots. Nope... the baffles I got were way too big.

I don't even know where to start at this point. I just know that I'm not in love with the sound that I have.
Sidenote... the carb tuning got me a long way. The bike rides smoother, and sounds better, but I definitely lost some performance. I 100% certainly got better acceleration from the clunky feel, and the carb-farting.

Thanks...

Ps... I'm brand new. Be kind. Lol.

That's what I thought! But here are the quiet baffles they sent me for V&H shortshots.

Way too big.

Are there different sizes?

Looks like baffles for the Long shots, or the slip ons.

I appreciate it. They are definely labeled as "quiet baffles for shortshots".

I know for sure that they are going back.

I may put 500.00 together, and just get a whole new exhaust.

A new system is a good idea. Putting the quiet baffles on those short shots won't make it much quieter. You're still dealing with an exhaust that is robbing power when you might be more interested in something that improves the power.

Any suggestions? Something that's a good balance between price and quality?

Those are the original short shots, they probably sent you baffles for the newer staggered short shots. Don't buy V&H again, if you want something similar that will be of better quality have a look at the Bassani Fire Flight or Pro Street Turnouts. If you want a really really good pipe look into the Fat Cat from D&D....
