Default Maintenance Items While Exhaust is Off

I pulled the exhaust off this afternoon as I am going to have it re coated with ceramic coating. While it is off, are there any any maintenance items I should take care of, most likely 02 sensors and/or the metal gaskets in the cylinders? The bike is a 2011 limited 110 motor with 50k on it. I purchased it used with 29k on it and dont know when the exhaust was put onto the bike. From looking at pictures, the exhaust appears to be a D&D two into one. Is there any re packing that needs to occur in the muffler itself? The exhaust on my old vrod would burn all the packing up every 7500 miles and I got pretty good at pulling that exhaust apart and re wrapping it.

Thanks
Alex

Default Couple things to consider

Hey Alex, you are right on with replacing the old exhaust header gaskets. If your head pipe is a D&D, they have their own exhaust flange gasket that is flat gasket, but thicker than the Screaming Eagle gaskets. I would recommend using their gasket to avoid leaks. If you can replace the O2s, that's good preventative maintenance. As for repacking the muffler body, that's your call. If you like the tone as it is, leave it. If you want to mellow the tone down a bit, then repack it. It won't effect the performance or runability either way. One thing I'd also recommend is inspecting your cam chain tensioners. You do have the better hydraulic tensioners in your year, but I have seen them fail in that 50-60K mile range in my time at the dealership. It's a pretty simple operation, just need to remove the 10 screws holding the cover on. If the chains appear worn more than about half way through the tensioner shoe on either one, I would replace. Hope this is helpful.

Thanks. I'll order some gaskets to get those replaced. I tried following D&D's how to remove the baffle and decided to just leave it as I had no movement after a couple hours of banging.

I've never done anything with the cam chain tensioner, I'll have to see if I can pull up a how to article.

Did you try repeatedly slamming the exit end of the muffler on a piece of soft wood while spraying a penetrant in both ends to lube? I did this with my Fatcat and it eventually came out. Seems a bit counterintuitive but it didn't damage the chrome at all. Got the tip from D&D themselves.

I did a bit of slamming but got nervous due to the slash cut. Are the slash cut mufflers still aafe to be slammed like that?

On a related note, I pulled off the cover to check the cam tebsioners and discovered the previous owner installed the screaming eagle 25400019.

Does this require the same type of mainentance as the stock setup?

At the risk of exposing myself as a complete idiot, I don't think that's the only tensioner on a twincam? Isn't there also a p.i.t.a. one on another chain inside which connects the cams together? Can it be inspected without disassembly? Maybe the condition of the inner can be assumed the same as the condition of the outer? I truly don't know.

There sure is... but you can look inside with a small dental mirror to inspect without having to remove the cam sprockets/ plate.

Assuming your bike has a cable operated clutch, consider replacing the cable while the exhaust is off.
