Default head question?

I need a set of heads to use as cores. Are 88 cu.in. heads the same as 96 cu.in.?

yes and no. The pre 06 have a different manifold bolt pattern but you can use what ever year manifold and be fine. The newer heads have a bigger ex port from the factory but if you are having head work done it won't matter.

You can mix and match....they will work.

The throttle body/intake flanges are different so if you have a pre 06 and get 06 or later heads back form the builder, you will need to get the 06 and later flanges, and vice versa. Flanges will cost ya about $12.

Thanks. I'm looking to find a cheap set to use as cores so I can keep the ones on my bike now. I know I can put them on another bike with the same bottom end and know what HP and TQ I will come up with. I already have more HP and TQ than I need. But just looking for more for some dumb reason. Cheaper to buy cores than what it cost for me to do my current heads.

You can usually find a set on e-bay for about $150. Doesnt matter what year or the miles as everything will be redone.

Agree, as they all fit with the correct flanges, but beware the 08 touring heads have provisions for the front mount. They still fit, but you would see the provisions.
