The new heads will work on your '04. You'll need the newer intake flanges.

06 heads should perform marginally better than 04 heads if both are stock. 06 heads have a little better exhuast port flow out of the box. you will need the 06 flanges part #26993-06. If you really want them to perform have the above poster wfolarry work on them. He is as good as they get.

The 04 heads that we have checked, flow about 126 cfm @ 10", the 06's a bit more.
Certainly huge room to make moves on those, no doubt.

The numbers I have seem compared a set of '02, '05 and '06 heads. I think most agree that '05 heads performed the worst of any before and certainly after. Results are for .500" lift and at 10"; all heads were stock with stock valves

2002 = 118.4cfm
2005 = 115.5cfm
2006 = 126.5cfm

Different flow bench setups may produce different results but these heads were tested by a respected head porter/builder and the setup was the same for each casting. The test was doe shortly after the '06 heads were out and people started to notice the difference in the exhaust port. The results speak for themselves; the 2006 heads flow 9.5% better than the '05 heads and 6.8% better than the '02 heads. Your '04 heads probably flow similar to the 2002 castings. 6.8% may only be marginally better and porting would certainly improve performance but changing out to the '06 heads is a good move.

nice comparison, any chance of throwing the newer 96" heads in the mix, curious what the flow would be over the 06's. I have an 06 and see the 96" heads on ebay all the time.

the newer heads flow approx the same as 06 heads give or take a few %.
now if you can pick up a set of 103 plus heads ****** them up and get them re-worked by some one like Baisley , Hillside or T-Man. .
