Hey guys,
I have some bad gas in the bike, started the bike up and only one cylinder (front) is firing. What do I need to do? Should I try to drain the tank? Its about half full, should I put in some fresh gas? Any ideas?
If you are sure it is bad gas, I would drain the tank and change the fuel filter, put some good 93 octane Shell Gasoline in it and then run it through the engine and it should clear itself up. Might better check your plugs too to make sure they are not fouled.
Yeah man,... drain that tank, clean/change the fuel filter, take the breather assembly/filter off exsposing the throttle body/carb, take out the plugs(unlug the coil), spray some(not a half a can) Gumout in the plug holes and run the starter-free wheel the engine around 30-45 seconds and while the cylinders are finishing drying out, wire brush the plugs and re-gap them at the correct spec. or go with new plugs.(if you go with new plugs, just clean up the old ones, get the thing started on fresh gas, and spray the remaining Gumout down the throttle body/carb WITHOUT LETTING IT DIE) replace gas with some good 93 octane, put in the new plugs and ride straight to O'reilley auto parts and buy a little bottle of Lucas fuel treatment. Only use about 1/4th of the bottle. ride around in town and out on the highway and shower down on it a couple of times for around 50 miles to get the rest of any carbon/fouling deposits out of the cumbustion chamber, and off the tops of the valves. After that, every 3rd gas-up use another 1/4th of the bottle until its gone. after that, get yourself some Cal-products "rocket Fuel" (its a small 1oz. clear plastic dispense packet with a goldish liquid inside) at your local indy shop or your HD shop, or order it off the web; use it regularly and you will suffer no more fuel related problems...take care buddy..
Oh, BTW..... smell your oil. if it had gas dripping in the cylinders, you know what you have to do....
My '06 Ultra started running on one cylinder and it turned out to be a bad regulator coil. That is a rare problem but it's worth checking to make sure you are getting fire to the dead cylinder's plug.
