Default Need outstanding dynotune Tech

I have enjoyed reading all the post and have about 500 miles on my 06 stock ultra.
Based on past info on this forum I would like to do the following to start since I will be riding out west this summer.
One concern is overheating and the other is getting slip-ons that are not loud but still permit taking advantage of the better air intake and dynotune job.
1. New K&N filter-kit RK-3009 (is this the same as HD-0800?)and is the filter completely covered by the stock football cover.
The Zipper type filter is not fully covered.
2. The big HD catalog SE touring slip-ons (are they really different than stock?, do they provide benefit over stock muffler?)
3. S.E.R.T. (Battlefield dealer said they use/prefer Dynojet IIIUSB, BaltimoreRT40 HD said they use/prefer SERT)
I am not sure what dealer to trust I need name and location of proven Dynotech in northern Baltimore county or within 50 miles
Even installing the SERT Battlefield said they only need to do a download and not dynotune for this basic upgrade.
this makes me feel like I am wasting the SERT money if they just do a download.
I have read that even with this simple upgrade if a good dynotune is done you can get about 8-10 in torque,
and also improve temp for the back cylinder
I am looking for just more low and mid rage torgue, say in the 2000 to 4500 RPM range.
4. Dependability without overheating is my priority not top speed.

Thank You

I can only give you what expert advise that I have experienced. I bought a 2000 Deuce new and had about 2000 miles on it when a friend and I decided to take a trip to San Diego from Phoenix--over the July 4th weekend a few years back. I was cruising along I-8 in the desert near Yuma and it was about 105 degrees outside in the shade. I was cruising at 95 mph when I looked down at the oil temp gage and it read 288 degrees. I instantly slowed to about 70, my heart thumping. I rode like a normal person the rest of the way across the desert. A few weeks later I went to Sturgis and just happened to run into one of the "engine engineers" from the motor company and told him of my problem. Honest, he said that the twin cam engines run hotter and to just keep running it as hard as I wanted. I asked him about an engine oil cooler and he told me--Honestly!--that they weren't worth the money, will only cool the oil down about 5 degrees. Syn 3 oil wasn't out at this time and so I wrote Mobil 1 and after a reply from them about the oil temp ratings, I started running Mobil 1 V Twin in the engine, Mobil Synthetic 75W90 Gear Oil in the transmission and Mobil MXT4 Synthetic in the primary. Again, Honestly, the temp dropped in the engine approximately 15 degrees, without installing an oil cooler. I believe in oil coolers, I've only told you what the engineer stated to me. I still have his business card somewhere. I now have a 2003 Screamin Eagle with 103 engine. It has a cooler and it runs hot as hell too. Ride it like you stole it, I've never yet talked to anyone that has had the engine come apart ONLY because of the heat issue. Bob

Thanks TWSTHARLEY, Syn oil was on my mind to do after my 1,000 miles and along with the Stage-1.
15 degrees is very impresive. I have no problem with Syn in the engine and trans but I have read at least two post that indicated possible minor clutch grip reduction with Syn oil.
Have you had the chance to really test Syn3 in all 3 location? Don't all SE come with all Syn3?
If it works It would certainly make it easy to use Syn3 for all. Seems Syn3 works in all but other brands require different ones for each box.

I don't want to railroad this post since I still need A Good Dyno-Tech near Baltimore, Maryland.

Thanks Tripl8,
I take it that would be Mobil V-Twin?
What type Redline would that be? I have never used Redline.
The MoCo Formula+ must be thier standard primary lube to get the good cluth bite?

I use to be a gearhead in my younger days, I need to warm-up on things and get back in the GAME.

There are a lot of "internet terror stories" about various horrible things that can happen because of a "bad" moco design. I think this issue is one of them and as with most, if you use common sense, you'll be better off, your bike will run fine and you'll have more in your wallet.

FWIW, whatever oil you use, change it regularly. If ya like syn - use it, if ya don't - you'll still be okay. Oil coolers work and if ya want one, get one. A nice, mild performance upgrade is the standard, old HD Stage 1 - doesn't break the bank and gives a noticeable increase. HD/SE parts will do what you want - they're well-engineered, designed to last and perform as advertised. They fixed the cam tensioner issue on the 06s, so your motor is bullet-proof.

FWIW, you might check your temp gauge, as they're not supposed to be that accurate. You can go here - http://www.fetco.com/boilingpoint.htm - and get the boiling point of water for your elevation. Then, boil some water and stick the gauge in it as soon as it boils. Could be you're not running as hot as you think.

Thanks for you words of wisdom FASTFXD.
I was also thinking of replacing the Air-Temp gauge with an Oil-Temp gauge.
It seems the Wally gauge maybe a simpler install than the HD gauge???
Do you have any experince with oil gauges, Wally vs HD

No experience with the gauges. The oil temp gauges I have seen seemed cheap, I hear they're prone to inaccuracy and I figured I wouldn't be able to see the damn thing anyway. I did mount a SE oil pressure gauge - which I find useful and am able to see. I also mounted a Jagg oil cooler to the left downtube, as I personally believe they do good and can certainly do no harm.

If you think you might like an oil pressure gauge, check into the Ness unit. It looks a bit nicer than the SE and it comes with a braided SS hose whereas the SE comes with plastic. If you go SE, Russel makes a SS line that fits.

If you like the idea of an oil cooler, I'm a font of knowledge.
