Exhaust Installation
As I work my way through the manual, I pull of the stuff at the handlebar, replace with chrome, good to go. As I work towards the other end of the cable, I read that I have to pull the clutch cover, I turn to the page I am referred to and the first step is to pull the exhaust. That sucks.
So, now I turn to that page. I have to tell you, pulling the exhaust was no real simple task. In the end, I didn't get it all the way apart, just off the headers and out of the way to pull the cover where the clutch cable goes.
I have all that done, and now I get to put it all back before moving on to the right handbar where I now see I have to pull the tank in order to replace the throttle and idle cables. (Looking forward to that...[:@])
Here is my plea for help.
The section of the exhaust that comes out of the back jug, splits, one side heads off to the left side of the bike, the other heads off to the right side of the bike. Where it heads to the left side, there is a joint. I never was able to seperate those two pieces, but I was able to slide them apart enough to get the exhaust out of the way of what I was trying to do.
What is the best way to get this all back together. These pipes are tighter than a dick's hat, and I'm not sure the best way to work with all these pieces. If I had a few hundred, I would order the rhineharts and just take it all off and start over. I want to learn how to to do this though, and I refuse to pay the dealer.
Rust buster comes to mind, as does WD-40. Can I bang on these with a rubber mallet? What's the trick?
Need help, bike is in a depressing number of pieces and has been since Saturday, (so I'm relegated to driving the vette, which I just put back together).

"Sexy, if I get these mufflers, it will allow me more time with you. I'm spending too much time putting this back together right now. Further, the quicker I get the bike back on the road, the quicker you and I can get back to "us" time...I'm doing this for you!"
I think I'll try the rubber mallet and the WD-40 I bought today. If that no worky hopefullyy the stuff from kanolabs will be in. After that it's the Rhineharts!

What a way with words. You could also add that the heat from the original exhaust crossover is gone with the Rineharts and will be cooler for her and show the beautiful motor better.
