Post Cam decisions?

I am about to have my 88 ci motor upgraded to a 95 ci. I have the SE high performance heads (vaulve lift is .575"). CR is 10.1:1. I am going with an Andrews gear driven cam. I am looking for recommendations as to which cam to go with. I have looked at the following:

55G
67G
Has anyone had any experience with the 32G?

I have run the 32G in a 107", nice cam, quiet running but more of a mid and upper range cam, could be a bit soft on the bottom in a 95" IMHO. Cams get "smaller" as displacement increases and visa versa. If you have the early SE Performance heads, a great combo is those heads, SE cast flat top pistons, a .030" head gasket and the S&S 570G cams; a consistent 100/100 build with great rideability and dependability. You may have heard of the "Hippo" build, named after the guy that came up with this combination of parts. I don't think S&S makes that grind in anything but a gear drive set, so if you aren't inclined to convert to gears that combo won't work for ya.

The 55 and 67 are definitely mid and upper end cams and you won't start feeling them until near 3000rpms. The 37 is a great 95" cam but may tend to ping with those heads; smallish chambers, like 76cc IIRC; they have been decked about .050". Take a look at the 31, the lower lift version of the 32 and at the 54, also a good choice IMHO; later intake closes and cranking CR will be in the 180psi range.

Those heads are good out of the box but get a tad better with a little cleanup work, bowl blending and a good multi angle valve job.

Great advice from djl as always.
Another cam that'll show you great power, at that compression ratio, would be a Wood TW-6-6.

A footnote to #2 and sort of an answer to Big Pete's post.

kwag245 says static CR is 10:1; calculator at 0.00" deck height shows 10.25 but he won't know what it is until he knows the chamber volume and his head gasket thickness. As I pointed out, the SE Performance heads have smallish chambers, 76cc IIRC so nothing but flat tops will work with those heads. Furthermore, the static isn't the controlling factor, corrected and cranking compression based on the intake valve closing will determine what cam will work with this piston/head combination.

The heads have a part number 16933-99B. from what I have learned about these heads, they take a certain piston part number 22439-00A. I have these heads and pistons for this upgrade and just wanted some advise as to which cams would work better with this set up. Also, can anyone tell me if my stock carb. will work with this upgrade? My bike is a 2005 Road King 88ci.

OK, everything I have said is wrong; these are not SE Performance heads as I interpreted from you original post. You have the "old" HTCC heads which will require the piston as inidcated by your PN. I don't have any experience building around these heads but have heard that they are difficult. You might want to talk to Scott (Hillside) about how to set them up. As I understand, they work best if the piston dome is machined to fit and achieve a more effective squish area. I would not recommend bolting this hardware together around a particular cam without talkking to Scott or a head porter, otherwise, you will likely be disappointed.

If I might be so bold as to suggest that you sell the HTCC heads and port your stockers to run with a set of flat tops all built around the cam of your choice. I think you will be much happier with the results as they are predictable and a good running 95" build is straight forward.

I have built a couple of the HTCC setups and they can be difficult to get the quench right, as well as sometimes difficult to tune. I belive that the HTCC pistons are no longer available from HD. I ran the Woods TW5-G in one build and it was a fun ride, producing great torque, and the other was a science project that the customer absolutlely wanted, and he was disappointed.

Sell the HTCC stuff and go with stock heads reworked by a quality shop such as Headquarters or Hillside.
