Default Came to my senses

Been thinkin a lil and decided a few things. One it will take more time and energy to focus on having a custom set of cams ground. So i decided to hold off on that. Since my time is limited and spring is around the corner. I also dont want to be bummed out about having a lazy hog. Dont get me wrong after i did the TTS tume it is no slouch, but the new found power got me hungry and i soon gotten use to the bike. So i went ahead and took some advise from some members on here.

As of today i have in my posesion new 103 flatop pistons, 18404 adjustable lifters, exhaust heat wrap, compresion releases, and lifters. Curtesy of a nearby harley dealer that was having a one day 15% off. I am waiting on the cams to get here. From all other posts and recamendations, most importantly my riding style. I have called Bob Wood and purchased the 555 cams with bearings. So as of this week which is going to be warm ill be gettin the bike over to the old mans house to do surgery.

I would also like to thank the ever so kind forum members that tried beating some sense in to me a couple weeks ago. : )
Now all i have to do is find a decent porter around Cleveland for my heads. U guys know anybody?

Call out to Western Reserve HD in Mentor and ask who they have do their heads. I have seen them and the quality is not bad. It is not what you would get with heads done by Headquarters, GMR, Hillside, etc but more of a street port job.

I think your going to have a fun ride once your finished. I'm looking forward to the snow being gone and the salt off the roads so I can get the trike out and do some V-Tunes and check out the new cams and gearing changes.

Default update

OK today I got home early uncovered the bike and started it. Started right up no problems. let it warm up a lil while I put on my hat and layered up. everything is going well till I get to the end of my drive and what do I see a huge sheet of ice. Well Got to get to my dads so here goes creeped over the ice and hit the street Awesome I didnt drop it..
So I take off and what the hell!!!!! The bike is vibrating like never before. It is vibrating so vilently I could not see straight. I pull in the clutch and let it coast at an idle, vibration goes away>>>>OK hit the throtle again starts to vibrate, WHAT THE!! I had to ride the bike and not going over 2000 RPM or the vibrtion would return. What gives I have less then 3500 miles on it?????? When I parked it for the winter it ran smooth no problems. Now anything over 2000 rpm it shakes its self and me apart. This is not a light imbalance either. By the time I got to my destination my wrist were knumb, my hands felt like I was still riding.
What do you guys think this could be A CRANK!!!!! It seemed like it had power but I couldnt give it full throttle either. Running on one cylinder?? Botth pipes got hot....

Anyways I figure Im here and might as well take the engine apart. I have to measure the crank anyway right. So in about 30 minutes I got the thunderheader off, oil drained, cam cover off, timing chain and sprokets apart, rocker cover off, and rocker arm assemblies off then pops turns to and asked What I got my wife for Valentines Day.....sh!7. Well got to go dad. Made it home just in time with a box of Malley bacon bark and strawberries, also got her card.

So now Im crossing my fingers hoping that I dont have to sink another 1200 to get the crank fixed, by the way if it is the crank Im going to have it pulled apart h-beams rods, plugged, trued, welded and balanced. might as well right. Guess Ill have to get in touch with the dealer also. Its still under warranty.

Could be crank but would be strange since it was fine when you put it away. You could have had some furry critter pay a visit and chew on some wiring.

Default Update disasembly

OK today I took it all apart down to the crank and block. Heads and cylinders are off. Cam support is apart, oil pump out. Total time into it 2 hours. Measured crank run out. I have .002 should I be worried??

I dont think it is bad at all. I think I may just send it to RevPerf and have them plug it, true it and weld it. Hell cheap insurance for $215.

Cant see any broken wires or mouse damage.

Your run out is a keeper, my trike with 10,000 miles come in at .005 and my 06 Ultra with almost 34,000 miles come in at or just a tick over .003 and is gear drive. The trike I'm just going to keep on riding and the other will be ridden this summer and taken down to go replace the crank with a Darkhorse unit and taken to 113 this next winter. If you don't mind pulling it apart $215 is pretty cheap, only other cost will be gaskets. Maybe someone else will come up with more ideas on your vibration.

You pulled in the clutch and the vibration went away? Or did the engine slow down and it went away.
You have to follow the clues.
The good thing is you are into things now and can do serios work. And you are young.
but may be the clutch.

Out of curiosity have you looked at the motor mounts? . A loose mount will cause that motor to do the jitter bug big time.

Agree, this seems like a driveline issue.
