Default Help!

So there I was...

Gentlemen I need your knowledgeable help with this bike. I have in my possession a 96 Electra Glide Classic, which isn't mine, but I'm dealing with it none the less. The bike has sat for long periods (several months) between being started, and now that I try to start it, it pukes oil out of some kind of vent line on the bottom of the bike. Again, this isn't my bike, but I am a rider, and I have zero experience with Harley's. I just want to be able to start it up and ride around the block every couple weeks, but I can't even do that.

It has been hard to start, but I expected that since it hasn't been started in months. What I didn't expect was the gurgling sound and the large puddle of oil (about half a quart!) that blew out of this vent line and covered the rear tire. I traced the vent? line, which is about 3/8" ID to the backside of the crankcase, about halfway up on the passenger side.

Gentlemen, I am at a loss as to how to proceed, so I would appreciate any knowledge or advice you can send my way.

Havi,

Welcome to HDF from the UK. Post your question in the Evo forum on here, you'll get more replies. But frankly this is the sort of thing more easily dealt with someone who can look at and hear your bike, so also consider mtairy biker's suggestion.

Very common for those Evo's to snot oil on the ground, when not in regular service, as the oil has weeped into the engine case, from the oil bag, and when you fire it off, what the return side of the pump cannot get back to the bag, goes out the crankcase vent.
If you let it run, perhaps a few minutes at a time, with a fan blowing on it, you'll probably witness that oiling issue coming to a stop.
Make sure you top off the oil bag once it has stopped, and would also be a good idea to check it during this little procedure.(when the engine is not running).
