I have a 2003 RKC with V&H oval slip ons running a PCIII. It's been a while so I am not sure which map I am running but it is one of the prepackaged ones. I've noticed that for some reason when I start the bike my check engine lamp will illuminate and after a few seconds and until recently it would turn off and not come back. However, on a couple of occasions, the light has come on while riding. The first time I was riding about 70MPH on a very hot day (close to 100*). I slowed the bike down to around 55 and the light would turn off, speed up again and it would come back on. I figured that maybe it was a combination of the heat and the fuel map perhaps starving the bike of fuel needed to move more air through the engine so I really did not worry too much about it. A month or so ago I took the bike on a three and one half hour ride and it was flawless. Then a week later I went out on a 55* day cruising around 70MPH and the light came back on again. Slowed down and it went away again. I tried to pull a trouble code using the dang turn signals and I was not able to retrieve them using the directions I had.
Question is, has anyone else seen this problem? My battery seems fine, I keep it on a trickle charger. One guy told me he replaced his battery after he was having some trouble code issues and they never returned. I guess I could take it in and have Harley tell me what the code is but I hate to pay that cash to them if I can figure out what's wrong. Thanks, Mike
I tried the to pull the codes using the speedo diagnostic mode procedure too and apparently it doesn't work on my 2003 RKC.
Well you need those codes for the engine lite. If it doesn't work you need to take it somewhere and find out why. Do you by chance have a custom Dakota console replacement ? The sequence on them is a little diferent.

No, my odometer is a combo tach and speedo. It just sits right on the dash.
I am getting almost the exact same thing... 70 MPH the light comes on and 65 it goes out on a hot day. The code says no combustion front cylinder so I am pretty sure it's a fuel map issue on mine. I'd bet yours is too. BTW, I just swapped head pipes to S&S Power Tune Duals, added a V&H fuel pak and a big sucker. So for me I believe that's the issue.
BTW... there is a thread here that as I remember says pre May 2004 ECM units with stock map may have a problem which makes them likely to generate the "no combustion" codes. I suspect that may be part of my issue too. I think perhaps it was always on the edge and the mods put it over the top. Going to have to take it to the shop for a re-flash to be sure.
Maybe I should just take the PCIII off and see what happens. I don't notice anything wrong with the bike or the way it sounds, just that dang light bugging the crap out of me.
I have a completely stock 09 ultra 98 inch 6 speed and have tried the speedo reset button sequence to check what the dang light on mine is too, and the instructions in my book dont work for mine........It has came on 1 time, today actually, after shut down and another ride its not on yet but I want to know what it is....

That's a good idea, wouldn't be the first time a piggy back with a blown fuse etc caused and issue.
