2000 Softail,Carb. Put the bike away in the fall, ran great! Last week took it out to fuel it up.Started fine, not a tick. Rode to the gas station, filled up(premium of course) headed back home, then I heard a racket from the (sounded like)front rocker box. Pulled over checked oil level, fine. No external problems noted. Bike started right back up no real problem other than the noisy rocker box. home gently, parked bike. After engine was cold restarted it and quiet as a church mouse...until engine oil was warmed then same noise! Have pulled rocker covers, looks fine. Pulled rockers off, look fine. pulled pushrods and tappets, they LOOK fine. Noise only when engine warm.No power loss in town riding. Winter before did adjuster shoe conversion(hydraulic slippers, oil pump, screaming eagle cam plate, andrews 21H cams) Consensus is bad lifter, but they seem fine. Ideas?

Reason: error
Well listen, you can only see physical lifter failure, a lifter can be beleeding down or not holding prime and that's nothing you can't see, how many miles are on them ?
Change lifters; a set of CompCams VThunder 850-1 lifters is cheap and good quality and there are more costly options if you have the $$. As a general rule, if rebuilding an engine or upgrading with a BB kit, if lifters have more than 25K miles on them, I replace them. JMHO
I'm going along with a lifter not maintaining proper "hydrology" as what Chad and djl have already refered to.
We step right up S&S lifters for our clients, not saying others aren't as good, but we just stay with what we know.

Noise only starts after about 10 minutes riding.Closest dealer over 100 miles away.Get the impression when I called they won't look at it unless I have them do the work.(I'm not expecting for free diagnostic)
