Well if the bike is new like with EFI I think you will need to have a software up grade to your bike if you change your pipes and if it has a carb you will need to do a stage 1 up grade. It is all in what you have.
Assuming it's an EFI 2007 model, you usually don't need to change your ECM for just slip ons. Depends on whether the slip ons let more air flow. A new set of pipes and a new air filter will certainly require changes to your ECM to correct the leaner condition and to prevent decel popping, etc. The bike starts out pretty lean, and when you pass more air thru, it just makes it even leaner. Most slip ons shouldn't require any changes.
FWIW, I love my Cycle Shack slip ons. Not too loud but plenty loud enough to "announce" your Harley. They cruise pretty quiet but they still bark with real authority if you goose it. Great chrome and a nice side slash cut. I can't tell you for sure about the download, but I've heard the same as above - you don't need it if you go just slip-ons and stay away from the breather, etc.
I have the download because I got a Screamin Eagle air box too.
BTW, my Cycle Shacks cost under $150 and took about 20 minutes to swap out.
Hey Boghog - I agree with you - it's embarrassing to get a harley and have to ride around with such wimpy sounding pipes! So much for the "harley sound" - it's crazy that we have to add hardware/software to get that sound!
I just did an upgrade to V&H BSS pipes, Arlen Ness Big Sucker and PC III - the shop put the stock map for that on it when they did the work. (I would still like to get it dyno'd for kicks-n-grins too.) This was not the less expensive route to go, but it has been worth every freaking penny because the sound is AWESOME!!! I freakin' love riding it now - it has always been a pleasure to ride (owned it a year before the upgrades), but now it is truly incredible to get out on the road with it.
J.
I just installed the V&H Big shot staggereds on my 06 Lowrider and it is the best 450 I have spent to date. They sound great I am setting off car alarms and scaring little old ladies all around town.
And I did not need any remap as I did not change the air cleaner. The plugs look great after about 250 miles nice tan color which means it is still running lean but not too lean. WhenI get more funds I will upgrade the Air cleaner and add a PCIII.
The V&H Slipons can be found on E-bay for right around 200.
I got my pipes from Eastern performance and shipping was free since they cost over 200. Took me about 1 1/2 hours to install including removing old pipes and changing out the Sparkplugs.
thinking about doing the cheap route right now and just trying to pop out the baffles. i was told by the dealer that the EFI is pretty smart and will compensate for this. the trouble about changing the entire pipes including the headers is the O2 sensors?? any suggestions about these??
Is it an 07? A Brother of mine just bought a 07 Street Glide and those are the loadest stock pipes I've heard on a HD since at least the 90s. They don't sound like sewing machines with stock pipes on them anymore!
