The wire to the switch is the ground so if any place its touching any metal -will put the light on — to test the switch at the pump put one end of a test light on the positive battery cable and the other on the place the wire goes wont the wire off - if it lights when running then the switch is bad
if not you have a ground happening to the switch wire
So there are some good ones out there, they are made in Europe you have to look at the insulating washer. On the bad Indian made ones it is black plastic on the good ones it is brown.
