Default Nead advice for sticking throttle

1997 roadking police FI

I went to lube my throttle/ idle because it was no stap back.

Realized that the adjuster nut on the idle cable was completely rusted closed

I vinally used a vice grip to open up the nut and bring bot throttle and idle all the way out or towards the gas tank.

I could not adjust the cables correctly, when i ad enough throttle to open up the throttle body it sticks, when i reduce it to barely open up it still sticks, and same with the idle cable.

I get the most snap back when the idle is completely towards the gas tank and same with the throttle. basically having both cables as loose as possible works ok.

My cable is pretty jacked up so i just ordered new cables for both. I don't want to risk these lousy cables

MY QUESTION IS THIS:

CAN I TAPE THE NEW THROTTLE/ IDLE CABLES TO THE TOP ENDS OF THE OLD ONES WITH THE RIGHT ANGLE METAL PORTION CUT OFF SO I CAN FISH THE CABLES THROUGH THE BIKE TO THE THROTTLE BODY WITHOUT REMOVING THE GAS TANK?

I don't feel i have the experience to remove the gas tank from the bike...

I doubt that's going to work. I believe the cables are bracketed in place here and there on their way to the intake and you wouldn't be able to fish the new cable through them. I would trace the cables and look for the brackets. You might be able to cheat on the tank and simply remove the bolts and push it up as far as it will go. Hold it up by placing an rag inbetween the tank and frame. You can move the crossover tube in the front up and over out of the way as well. It's a little tight but can be done. This might buy you enough room to fish the new cables through the tank.
