Don't feel like the lone ranger. I once was a little slow in picking up my leg from a stop light and I ran over my left foot with the rear tire. Luckily I had on heavy boots and it did not break my ankle. I thought it was going to pull me off the bike, but it didn't.
Stuff happens and the longer that you ride, the more stuff happens.

I've never done it, but my bike came equipped with big adjustable passenger floorboards stock. I thought they look dumb and do get in the way more than they need to. I rarely ride two up, so I took them off and replaced them with regular pegs to match my highway pegs. Looks better and they are out of the way. You can see them in my sig pic.
