OK...I know a guy that had SE255 cams put in his bike.
I looked at the box and on the label it said (to the effect)
" CAUTION. HD bikes equipped with SE products may not be used on the open road. and may be restricted to closed course competition. This product (SE255 cams) is intended for race applications only. Installing this product and similar products from other companies may reduce or void your HD warranty."
Since the label on the other side said it was for "06-later Dyna models and '07- later softail and touring models'.....is there some CLOSED course races for Touring bikes I have missed on FX TV?
The guys bike is not under warranty......mine is. What is up with this?
it's all EPA, goody two shoes stuff = modification from stock not covered
most dealers that install the screaming beagle stuff first will honor your warranty, some may not
not a lot of people know this but do little research and you will find this:magnuson moss warranty act
above the federal law passed in 1975 which in a nutshell the company (warranty) that denies a claim must first provide that the part installed contributed to the direct failure. I.E. if you install a full exhaust and your motor blows up to do internal failure they can not void your warranty claim. Now if you do cams and the "cam" causes the failure than yes it can be denied.
So does that mean when I bought my Screamineagle Roadking back in 08 that I voided the warranty by buying a screamineagle where certain parts are screamineagle parts? I'm confused. Who knew that all this time I was supposed to be racing instead of just riding.
The not for street use and warranty issue, on a product, that is made to fit and enhance the performance of a street bike that they manufacture, is an oxymoron to say the least.
The reason it says about closed course operation only, is do the parts are not EPA sanctioned. Meaning they have not been tested, or they do not meet Epa pollution regulations, for street bikes. Harley's screaming eagle mufflers had the same warning on them due to they exceeded the Decibel limit for street bikes. Harley decided to stop selling them under the threat of being fined for them for being non-compliant. That never stopped anyone from using those parts on the street. But you could still get a ticket for loud pipes, or not be able to get your bike thru inspection in some states. For Harley it was a CYA thing, and kept them from being fined by the EPA. Unless Harley can prove that any part not factory or dealer installed, caused a failure of some other warranty cover part, they have to honor the warranty. Sometimes you may need a lawyer to get involved if the dealer doesn't want to fix something .,,
I have read the magnuson moss thingy...but if something says "Do Not Do This It Will Void your warranty" My dealer said it is a Grey area...
I think the courts would rule in the consumer's favor provided the dealer does the install and watches the customer ride away (and not just one time thing but like every day). And especially given that 255 cams are in the street-running CVO models....

I thinking of 255 or 254e cams and my dealer says not problem with the warantee as long as its his shop. If, I am at another dealer, he says not so sure. Depends on the dealer. He said the same about my stage 1.
All BS. Every SE upgrade I have done on my bikes has always been covered by the dealers. And on some of my bikes, I did a whole lot more than just swapping SE cams. Now if you go to third party cams or engine parts, all bets are off.
