There were cardboard boxes scattered over the freeway
from some guy not securing them properly.
As the rider was riding past, a box was picked up by the
wind, hit him in the face.
He fell backwards off the bike, and slid into an HOV lane
where a bus was coming.
The bus didn't quite HIT him. He slid under the bus
(between the two front wheels, thank God) and some part
of his clothes got hooked onto the bus.
The scrape on his helmet is that deep and even because he
was dragged by the bus until it came to a stop.
If he had just come to a stop on his own, the helmet
wouldn't be like this, but since it took as long for him to
stop as the bus took, this is what happened.
These pictures where shot at the hospital after the straps were cut.
Anyway, maybe the whole thing is total bs but there it is.
My Bell Bullitt is a great lid and I wouldn't ride with anything else. The increased coverage is just a bonus. It flat out rides better than any other helmet I've tried in 18 years on a bike.
Nothing is guaranteed to work 100% of the time, but for me I would never ride with anything less than a FF helmet. My dad was in a wreck when I was 12 and the only thing that saved him when his head hit and bounced several times on the highway was that he was wearing a FF helmet.
I got cut off traveling at speed. Bike went into sideways skid. The mini floor board dug into the road and the bike and I were whipped on the hwy. After the initial first bounces.. I slid down the hwy on my head and shoulder...legs up in the air. Although i had owned the helmet for a few years, It was only the second or third time i had ever worn the helmet. I usually wear a novelty helmet. I am lucky to be alive. I may add, i was using a bubble shield which probably saved parts of my face, as there were large scrapes and gouges on it.
3/4 Bell custom 500 for daily and Bell RS1 for long rides... I dont know if It was luck or divine intervention that got me to go back in the house and switch helemts.. What ever it was, learned my lesson.
