Default Tie down bracket?

Just installed tie down bracket on 15 Electra Glide Limited. Used the stock studs and acorn nuts to secure it, instead of the kit supplied bolt. Seems to be secure, has anyone done this and had any issues with the bracket while hauling their bike? The only thing I can see might be a problem, is if the nut isn't strong enough to endure the strain of the long haul. I would ride the bike to Texas each winter, but haven't figured out how to while towing a 5th wheel toy hauler.

What are you calling the studs and the nut? Doesn't the kit come with the brackets and bolts (what you call studs?) only? The nut would just be reused.

The kit comes with 4 bolts and washers no nuts. The bolts from the kit has an allen head, screws into the fork so there is no nut just an ugly looking galvanized allen head showing. I like the stock chrome better, but wasn't sure of the strength of the stock chrome nut.

When I installed mine, I used the original studs and acorn nuts.
It just looked nicer.

Then I got to thinking about why did they supply new hardware?
Well, I talked myself into re-doing it using the supplied hardware in the kit.

Although, I think it will work just as well using the original studs and acorn nuts.
I have read where others here kept the factory hardware as you did.

Ai installed the same brackets on my 2014 CVO Limited. I installed these in December of 2013. I used the original studs and accron nuts just because of the looks. I have trailered the bike to Flordia last winter and Texas this winter. I used these brackets to tie the bike down and got along fine. Hutch

Thanks all for the responses. I checked with the service and parts guys at my Harley dealer. They said they install either way depending on what the customer wants, and have not heard of any problems.

Not sure what you're calling tie down brackets. I've always just run the tie down straps up to the handle bars.

I think he's referring to these Harley Davidson tie-down brackets.

Right here.
