I got a question. I have the docking HW kit and the directional light kit. Was wondering why we have another bracket in the docking HW kit? does this replace the bracket already on the bike. Does the bracket go inside of the fender? I am asking because I thought I saw a bike in the dealership with a bracket outside the fender (and maybe it had another bracket inside the fender?).
The only reason I can see why there is another bracket in the docking HW kit is because the lights will stick out more so the bracket facilitates that?
Do I take off the standard bracket and use the bracket from the docking HW kit?
The bracket goes on the inside, it has to do with how the turn signals are mounted and how the bolt/wires are routed I believe. You will have to use the brackets that come with the kit.
I know which part you mean. I think they are of equal strength. just a cheap piece of nickel plated tin with a couple of bolts welded on. Remove the old ones and compare them, choose whichever the welds look better. If your like me you won't see much difference at all. I had the docking replacement hardware on there and the weld cracked off of one of the bolts. So I used the stock bracket to replace it. never broke again
Well...I had to come back and post that I broke the rear part of the bracket when I installed the stalk. I looked at the other one that came with the kit and yeah its a tin piece with the bolt weld in two places. To me the stock bracket looks much better. From what I can see...they both look the same and actually the stock bracket looks better made. If you are using the stock bracket then that is what I will do.
Don't understand why Harley would make us buy these additional brackets when it is really not needed. However I do not think I need to torgue too tight too. It says to torque 12 ft-lbs or 16-24 Nm and since I do not have the right attachment to tight this up I will just do by hand. I think the loctite will take care of this not coming loose.
