I recently joined the forums, and have been following various threads about remapping. I'm planning to do that sometime on my Iron, and have some basic questions. (I hope they're not *really* dumb questions.)
The remap options seem to be purchasing something from Power Commander or Dynotune, or having the dealer do it. Consensus on the threads seems to be that the better option is to buy a unit and do the remapping myself. Is that true? Are there warranty issues around doing it yourself? Is the cost of having the dealer do the remap way out of line, compared to having your own unit? Is the PC5 (for example) difficult to install and configure for non-techies? Will the results (DIY versus dealer) vary much?
Just trying to get my head around all the good info I'm coming across here.
There seems to be some kind of consensus. In that, the factory tuners error in the favor of being epa compliant. Also Seems like a lot of the diy guys like the aftermarket stuff. Kinda like more to play with, and future mods.
There is a forum sponsor named "Fuel Moto" here on the forum. I have to believe they can guide you thru all your questions. I purchased a dyno tune Power Vision thru fuel moto.
You tell them what you have. They send out unit that is mapped based on your mods. Then in the future your mods change, just email fuel moto. They will in turn email back a new map. To get you running. Then there's auto tune. Which is like a fine tune based on your particular driving style. I've never even used it. Bike runs so good. It's not even funny......
I can't say enough about them. The product and service continues to be A+.
I got my Road King's PC5 from FuelMoto, and it's the best single mod I've made to that bike.
It plugs into the wiring harness at the bike's ECM, which retains its original map.
I bought a set of their Jackpot mufflers after my 95" build and they're GTG too.
I just added a Fuel Moto EFI tuner on Sunday along with a high flow air cleaner. The throttle response is impressive. I strictly chose Fuel Moto because of the reviews on this forum.
No one's yet said whether having something like a FuelMoto unit installed voids the warranty. What happens when you go to the dealer for service and the bike is configured differently from the factory settings?
