Fill up ever hundred mile is a very safe rule.
I have my odometer set to show the current time instead of the kilometers.

Yup, those who are saying 1.5gal after fuel light, sound about right. Mine always has around 5 liters, or a tad more left in there...always look for a gas station when the light goes on and always pumping about 14 or so liters at that point...

The fuel gauge is as reliable as a china part can be.
Usually---Light comes on -I have a gallon left---- sometimes. light came on--15 miles on the interstate and mine died on an off ramp, coasted to gas station and put in 4.8 gallons.
I trust the odometer more. Hell it's all we have on the oldies.

The reason why the gas gauge has so much variation from Harley to Harley is because of the float lever is not correct.

If you ever watch someone try to put the whole fuel pump assembly back into a gas tank, you will notice that the float lever will get in the way and eventually bend. Which way and how much it bends is dependent on the person putting it in.

I had 1.5 gallons left in the tank?
Is the fuel Guage that far off?
My X Bones is certainly that inaccurate.

My Sportster is not. When it's empty I need to find a gas station now.

What is this "on empty" of which you speak? I've never owned a bike with a fuel gage. I always use the trip meter.

If the Fuel Tank is "Empty" I'm guessing that you have no gas.

Gee . . . what was it we used to do before we had Gas Gauges?

Oh yea . . . that was before counter rotating balance shafts and rubber mounted engines . . . . you only had to worry about running out of gas AFTER your hands and your butt were completely numb.

My fat boy goes 210 miles before reserve. I don't go by a fool gauge.

The low fuel light comes on on my FLSTN when I've used about three gallons. I always try to fill it up then. Better error on the side of caution.

What about running out of gas on bikes with an electric fuel pump? Is running the pump dry harmful to the pump?
