Default Performance mods

Hi all, I'm new to the forum and am looking for some advice!

I have a 2013 sporty 72 in candy red and I love it. It has Vance and Hines short shots (I want to keep them), screaming eagle high flow filter and a super tuner. Now I want to add some more performance without spending a fortune. I was looking at a hammer 1275 kit and perhaps some cams. Was hoping to avoid head work. Love to hear people opinions on the kits and or other mods.

If you are serious about performance you will need headwork (or SE heads) & ditch the short shots for a 2-1 exhaust. Otherwise you are just wasting $$$.

Higher compression, better flowing heads, cam replacement, 2-into-1 exhaust are all areas of improvement. It depends on how much you want to spend. If your going to do a big bore kit why wouldn't you do head work?

If you don't want to spend a lot of money, you could install some "torque" cams that make more power on the bottom end.

do some surfin on the web, look at sites that list dyno output from various sporty upgrades and decide what you can afford, what you want to do, and what would be the expected torque and hp for your set up.

goggle image 100 hp sportster. The first black, vintage looking XL was mine. 100hp/88ft lbs
In goggle all, you'll find lots of discussion on XL performance. You won't go far without heads..they work with rest of your parts to make the HP. XR1200 heads or Buell heads might be good. The Buells had a lighter crank that helped them rev, too...

I am still riding my 14 year old, 2003 UltraClassic.
Right out of the chute I built the heck out of that motor, 95", 100/100.
It was fun for a few years. Now the bike is just a run of the mill 95" with mild headwork, TW26G cams and some minor PC3 tuning done years ago.
Reliable, fast and fun. No more problems with pinging, I put 2011 OEM mufflers on it and have no idea what the HP/TQ is now.
It just starts runs it's relatively quiet, I like it.
