I'M new to all of this. Need help! I bought 2017 iron 883 (love it!!!) I need to change the exhaust ASAP! what's the best way to go about it and what are the best pipes you guys recommend. I want noise AND performance. any help very appreciated!
I don't know that there is any best. What one person likes another might hate. The best thing though you can do is go to the shop or bike events or anywhere else a lot of bikes are at and listen. When you hear something you like to check it out. The only best that there might be is to do it right. If you are getting an exhaust get some type of high flow air filter ( again they are as varied as the exhaust) and get the bike tuned after the exhaust and air filter are installed. Popular pipes are Vance and Hines short shots. I have samson hell raisers on mine.

So, what is the nature of the exhaust issue that it has to be changed ASAP? I'm guessing you're simply impatient.
The best way to go about it is to buy and install a new exhaust. That's it.
Changing the exhaust alone isn't going to get you much performance improvement at all. Noise yes, improvement no. A Stage I upgrade (heavy breather air cleaner AND free flowing exhaust AND tuner for fuel management) may, and I mean may, get you a 5-10% performance increase. The best exhaust for that is a 2 into 1.
The more noise you make the more you will pi$$ off the non riders. Makes for a bad taste when they are considering noise laws.
Best find some pipes that sound good with a nice Harley distinctive sound.
My two cents for what is is worth.
You might try a U tube search for Sportser aftermarket exhaust....the sound is not like in person of course but you may get some ideas at least......maybe just take your time to decide....there are alot of options and you will have to live with your modification for a while....also do some research on aftermarket air cleaners and tuners.... a change in exhaust system is more than just a change in sound or loudness, the intake and EFI system all need to be balanced, which is where a tuner comes in......a lot to consider, take some time to take it all in
The earlier post by bonedoc really says it all . Research "Stage One Upgrade" there are lots of information on the forums for Stage One Upgrade Good luck!
If you have to ask, guessing you didn't invest in a service manual yet...best to start there.
For sound & performance, look at 2-1 pipes...Thunderheader, Bassani & V&H have nice systems. Also, I just bought a Firebrand52 for my Dyna...might want to take a look at them too.
