Secondly, don’t say “key thingy”. Just don’t. No further explanation needed.

Regarding someone’s comment that they are all keyed the same, when did that start? I know for a fact that was not the case during the Evo era which used a regular key instead of the barrel key. It would make no sense for all bikes to be keyed alike. Imagine if automobile manufacturers did that!
That's what I'm thinking. Nothing felt different but that's the only explanation. It's not going to go bad overnight or anything. Just a faulty ignition switch lock.

I couldn't tell ya when the barrel keys started being machined the same. Maybe when the pods starting being introduced? But yeah, all the key thingys worked on my bike

I purchased a 2002 Heritage new and when I tried to lock the forks, the key wouldn't go in.

I put the key in the lock, hit it with a ball peen hammer, it worked fine after that.

Mine still wouldn't work after getting hammered.

Tech tried it when he unlocked it and it didn't the same thing.

I did it more out of frustration.

Harley was recalling the Heritage's back then for this very thing. Only they were changing the locks and you had to have two sets of keys, one for the switch and one for the fork.

The keys on my two bikes are not interchangeable.

They are not cut the same. The barrel key is cut with varying depth groves and spacing.

On my 10 Ultra Classic the tour pak and saddlebags had separate keys. None of my barrel keys will work in any other of the bikes. And that amounts to twenty four different keys.

So they are not keyed alike.

Is there any possibility this could have been the result of mixing up your keys with Dad’s spare key at some point?

I am really not believing that Harley would make keys identical.

Nope.

He was over at the casino when all this happened so I didn't have access to his key, just mine. Mine worked just fine with his ignition/fork lock when I tested the key to see if that was the issue.

Maybe his key system is different since he doesn't have the FOB?

I'm really intrigued by this.

I always heard that if you can't fix it with a hammer, then you have an electrical problem.
