Does anybody have any experience (good or bad) with Eagle Rider Rentals? It looks like the two dealers here in SoCal no longer rent directly, and I read that Eagle Rider is looking to place rental desks inside the dealerships.
I just got my license this year (I'm 54) and been renting bikes for the day to work on my skills and see what I really like.
This could be good or bad for me as a renter, depending on their plans for locations. Currently their one location in LA is at the airport; I'm not going to go there for a weekend rental.
I was surprised when I found out Glendale Harley was dumping their rental operation. They didn't mention they were going to replace it with anything. The only complaint I've heard about Eagle Rider is that reservations do not guarantee the bike of your booking choice being available when you show up. Also they put a $2,000 hold on your card which can take a few days to lift after returning the bike.
Plenty of ways to demo ride bikes here in So cal if you're shopping. I'd try that in the mean time.

I've rented from Eagle Rider twice. Once in Las Vegas and once in Orlando, four days each time. I don't have any complaints. They had 3 different levels for the insurance coverage, I chose $35/day $0 deductible and $100 deposit. Also when I rented you could pay an extra $18/day to guarantee the bike you wanted. I paid this to make sure I had the tour pack for my wife and all of our stuff. They have a club membership you can join and get a free rental day each month, but check where you want to rent because it doesn't work at all locations. I saved a lot more on the 2 rentals than what I paid for the year membership.
Thing,
I used to rent from Glendale - good operation.
I'm really hoping ER will go into dealerships to expand their locations.
I was also hoping the $2,000 deposit would go away - that's a pretty high deductible for damage - I'm afraid to return the bike with any dust on it.
What other options are around in So Cal that you are aware of?
I don't know of any other HD rental currently in the area. The dealers have demos you can take short spins on, but nothing like a rental to figure out a bike. Might be worth dealing with the airport location. Might call Bartel's or Laidlaw HD and see what they have?
I am an eaglerider member. Have paid the model guarantee and then got called the day before my reservation and told the ultra was not available. I was not happy as I would be touring for 5 days with a passenger. The Orlando location bent over backwards to get me an Ultra. I have no idea how they did it but they pulled it off.
I have rented in New Hampshire, Orlando, Flagstaff, and SanFran. Great outfit and the 29/mo membership is well worth it.
My own bike is a dyna wg and I don't own a touring bike. But I love to fly to different parts of the country and hop on a big touring bike to see the area.
Nice way to get cross thread points! By the way, is there some place on here to see how many cross thread points someone has accumulated? I think it's about time for me to redeem mine.....
