Well, for folks who “ suffer” with pollen related sneezing and all of the other symptoms this time of the year in the south.... what do you take so that you can still ride? Anything over the counter that works for you that doesn’t make you drowsy? Yeah, I’m wimpy but I am not going to miss out on 80 degree weather that we have right now. Am I the only one?

I alternate between Claritin and Zyrtec. Taking one or the other all the time I'll build a tolerance and won't get any results. And I only take them when I need to. I've tried the "take it regularly" so you don't have symptoms but it has never worked for me that way. Right now, everything here is starting to green up and I can see the pollen on the pine trees. My truck is black and has a yellow/green shine to it everywhere it goes if allowed to sit. It's a PITA.... so far yet though, the allergies haven't been bad.

I take a q-tip and coat the inside of my nose with Neosporin ever since I had some issues a few years back. My ear, nose, throat doctor recommended it and I find it works wonders.

Nasacort changed my life.

I always had seasonal allergies to some degree, but pretty manageable for the most part. When I moved back to Oklahoma things seemed to worsen significantly. At one point I was taking Claritin, Zyrtec, Allegra, Benadryl, and Sudafed separately and in various combinations along with occasional steroid injections. I was miserable from either not being able to breathe or foggy with antihistamines and Sudafed. Finally tried Nasacort and within a week was able to breathe through my nose again. I now use it once or twice a week for maintenance and then daily during times of heavy pollen.

If you do try it make sure to blow as much mucus and snot out, preferably after a hot shower, before you spray it in. It has to get to the mucous membranes of the nasal passages to work.

I would take a dust mask ( bandana ). Not only will it stop pollen coming in but it will stop you from messing up your visor if you use one.

I keep the non-drowsy Benadryl in my wallet. It hits me if I ride past a farmer cutting alfalfa.

I don't suffer from allergies but would recommend trying Flonase. It is over-the-counter now.

All medications affect each individual differently. What helps one person may not help another. Keep trying each medication until you find what works best for you. Take several doses of the medication before determining it is ineffective.

You may want to use a combination of drugs. Maybe Nasacort (as cowboydoc mentioned) or Flonase, which are both steroids, for severe symptoms and oral medication (Allegra, Zyrtec, Claritin) for more mild symptoms.

I'm sorry for those who suffer from seasonal allergies. It can make you miserable.
